Meskipun Age Of Empires III tidak sepopuler dengan generasi sebelumnya yaitu Age Of Empires II King / Conquerors tapi masih cukup banyak yang berminat bermain online untuk game ini, mungkin karena alasan aitem, grafis dan sepesifikasi komputer menengeh membuat game ini kalah dengen generasi sebelumnya di kalangan gamer online, tapi game ini telah mengumpulkan penghargaan, termasuk Gamespy 's "Best game RTS tahun 2005, dan merupakan salah satu game terlaris tahun 2005 Pada tahun 2007 dan game ini terjual lebih dari 313.000 pada tahun itu.
